Energy production from biomass
The adoption and implementation of an integrated, modern solid waste management system is a strategic priority for ENACT, encompassing environmental, developmental, and public health dimensions. The company approaches waste management with a focus on sustainability, resource recovery, and health protection.
Biomass is a renewable energy source, offering a key advantage over fossil fuels, which are non-renewable and continuously depleting. According to Directive 2001/77/EC, biomass is defined as the biodegradable fraction of products, waste, and residues originating from:
- agriculture (including plant and animal materials),
- forestry and related industries,
- as well as the biodegradable portion of industrial and municipal waste.
Benefits of Biomass Energy Utilization:
- Environmental protection, through emission reduction and organic waste recovery.
- Contribution to climate change mitigation, by lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
- Conservation of natural resources, by replacing conventional fuels.
- Promotion of alternative fuel use, enhancing energy independence.
- Creation of new employment opportunities in green economy and circular resource sectors.
